On this day in 1781, Los Angeles was founded on the site of present-day El Pueblo Historical Monument.
David Alfaro Siqueiros’s only U.S. public mural, América Tropical, is on-site at El Pueblo in its original location. The Getty Conservation Institute worked to conserve, protect, and make it viewable in partnership with the City of L.A.
