La Pocha Nostra workshop in Denver, CO this weekend. Applications Due TODAY.
what to expect:
- ● Physical and mental endurance exercises and sometimes fatigue. The work is very intense but fun and exhilarating.
- ● A strange and sometimes wonderfully disorientating sense of community and group collaboration. Solo creativity is out of place…but we will try to find a place for everyone, even for the occasional loners and infant terribles.
- ● A cross generational, polygendered and polyethnic group of rebel artists, activists and theorists.
- ● A crossdisciplinary group. It makes for a more varied and interesting community of rebel artists.
- ● The beginning of many strong transnational friendships with likeminded artists from other countries.
- ● A polylingual pedagogy including Spanglish, gringoñol and portuñol. Some of us have very bad English accents! Yes. We celebrate linguistic hybridity! It’s the future. Performance becomes the lingua franca.
- ● Lots of social interaction, ritual games, jam sessions & unexpected border crossings.
- ● Over caffeinated instructors with compassion and a sense of humor. We believe in radical tenderness as political and pedagogical practice! [emphasis added]
- ● A multivocal instructional model that resembles a performance jam session.
- ● A routine of intense social and cultural experiences that extend beyond workshop hours.
- ● An anarcic queer/ecosexual/ postfeminist/multiethnic/ transborder collective in which everyone partakes in all decisions, and works toward horizontality within the troupe and the workshop.
