The Obama administration is moving forward with a proposal for a government ranking of colleges that seeks to rein in spending and make universities more accountable.

RAF: there are those who believe that regimes of accountability are being imposed to assert control over what has been a doctrine of academic/intellectual freedom. These regimes will ensure that market logics and value propositions
determine what is taught, and will threaten the scholar/teacher model that currently exists. The causation chain
between basic research in the sciences, the circumspect progress in the humanities, and exploration in the arts, and that which is considered valuable in market terms, are all vulnerable.
