Anyway back to my Daughter. as she walked back to the house I realized even when car camping she seemed never really into it. and as she walked back to the house I had flashbacks of her saying on numerous camping occasions “I am done camping now lets go home.” So here is where the barbies came in. Hannah (my Daughter) loved Barbies. I realized one of the reasons she probably wasn’t into camping but really into dress up and clothing ads in the newspapers and flashy princess type dresses and so on, was because that is what she played with her Barbies. Infact one thing I noticed while watching her play with them, is that her barbies only had flashy type clothes and stuff. Her barbies or should I say the toy companies were training, on what they thought little girls should like and the way they should grow up to be. “NO WAY” I thought, that is only a one-sided individual. I didnt mind her being a little princess as long as she also knew how to be a Forest ranger Jane. Lets make her a more well rounded person and not become some self-centered, shallow moviestar type. So I did what every concerned Father would do, I sat down at the sewing machine and with a sacrificed Flannel shirt, made some bushcraft Items for Barbie and her friend. I had Hannah draw what she thought would be real fashonable backpacks and bedrolls and after trying to interpret her drawings (remember she was 5), I got to work. I also made a canoe and used an old tent rainfly to make her a Barbie tent.
