In the Spanish language, the word Juego corresponds to both play and games; you can call playing with toys a juego as well as playing a juego de ajedres (a game of chess). A distinct word to define a game with rules and end conditions does not exist. Although there is a structure and a set of rules that make the match fair for chess players, the fundamental mechanics have the goal to stimulate the mental or physical abilities of a person.
The juego Proteus contains a fascinating world that for me, it stimulated the curious, artistic, and abstracting parts of my brain, the same way I played as a child with toys and no victory goal in mind. Proteus is, among many other titles that we see more recently, establishing a new form of digital play, one that spans outside of wrapping play within a competitive structure to pleasure a group of vocal game fans.
