Parable of the Sower

[A]young girl in the year 2024 looks at the world and whats happening in a different way then others, she questions God, if its his doing or not whats happening in the world at that time. She has a disease called Hyperempathy caused my some futuristic drug her mom took during her pregnancy. This disease causes her to feel the pain someone else is going through when she see’s them.

Parable of the Talents

Butler concludes the spiritual and physical journey, begun in Parable of the Sower (1993), of Lauren Oya Olamina, an 18-year-old African American who has survived most of her family’s demise and a lengthy journey on the dangerous roads of early-twenty-first-century California. She has created her own religion, Earthseed, which empowers people to master change and has as its ultimate goal the colonization of other worlds.

Octavia Butler was a brilliant author, and one of my favorites.
