I don’t usually toot my own work too much here, but this is a fun exception.

This is my uncle Jeff Severson performing his fingerstyle guitar original “All Good Things” from his new album Instrumental Breakdown.

A few months ago he asked me to shoot a video of him playing this song for his upcoming album release. Most of the videos on his YouTube channel he shot himself with a webcam and no lights.

So yeah, sure, sounds like fun.

Before I had ever heard the song, I asked him if there was anything visual that came to mind when playing this song. He answered “flying.” Also “I don’t want people to see my face.”

I grabbed the 7D and about four different lenses from my office, a few actual lights, and we spent an afternoon shooting this song about 15 times in his backyard in Arlington.

Some DC people might know Jeff from the power pop band 4 out of 5 Doctors in the 80s. Yes. It’s pronounced Sea-ver-sun.

N.B. the weird shit the 7D’s sensor does with motion, especially the guitar strings. I wasn’t going for that intentionally, but it’s a cool side effect.
