Assume the following to be true:
1) Within 10 – 20 years there will be so much degraded space-junk and ping-ponging micro-debris in orbit that launching satellites, let alone leaving the Earth on a space ship will become impossible, so Mankind will become auto-imprisoned on our own planet. Scratch rocket-ships and exotic propulsion-drives. No space travel.
2) The internet will become so unusable / unsafe due to rampant, near-hysterical levels of cyber-crime / -espionage and malware crawlers that it will be abandoned; and there will be no good-will / co-operation / money to provide the infrastructure for a new fireproofed global web. So international cable-based comms will return to a sort of 1980’s ceiling. Application development will dry up. End of ‘cyber’ revolution.
3) Scarcity of rare-earth metals will put a similar limit on wireless / mobile devices / apps.
4) Robots will prove too expensive to use. Why use robots when you have uber-cheap human labour-pools?
5) The universe is teeming with life, but the amount of energy required to travel between habitable planetary systems means that we will never, ever be visited by or communicate with extra-terrestrial life-forms. No aliens; get over it.
Now write some SF [science fiction].
