Ideal Woman: Outline
allie pohl
Ideal Woman: Outline is a continuation of Allie Pohl’s Ideal Woman series. This SATURDAY, July 21 from 4-6, during Perform Chinatown 2012, Pohl will sketch participants’ bodies from waist to knee, similar to the iconic shape of Ideal Woman. Ideal Woman: Outline will demonstrate a sampling of the different shapes and sizes of women in the city of Los Angeles, a city consumed by the idea of perfection. By outlining participants’ bodies in her iconic shape, Pohl continues her dialogue, which questions the idealized female form that has been marketed to woman and largely absorbed by society at large as a paragon of physical beauty.
Allie Pohl is a Los Angeles based conceptual artist who has created the symbol titled “Ideal Woman.” The symbol is based on Barbie, the toy doll, and has been digitally enhanced to the ideal female measurements (a social construct) of 36-24-36. By developing a new brand image, the “Ideal Woman”, Pohl forces the viewer to be aware of the unattainable nature of this “cookie cutter” form that pervades Western culture.
This is LA’s 4th Annual Showcase of Performance Art. There will be over 40 actions, performances, installations, interventions and manifestation from performance artists from around the world.
The outline will take place from 4-6 and possibly resume from 7:30-10:00
