National Gaming Day at your local library
Some of my classmates and I are working project which requires us to plan a month’s activities and programs for young adults at ‘our library’. We were given the choice of theming our month for Teen Tech Week, Summer Reading Program, or Teen Read Week (yeah, I know they are weeks, but we were asked to prolong them to a month by our professor). My team was pretty indifferent about what theme to chose, but I told them that I thought we should do Teen Tech Week. You may ask, because they certainly did, why I could chose Teen Tech Week … well, because of gaming! So many libraries are incorporating gaming into their programs and even materials now. The Tuscaloosa Public Library have “Wii for All” and “Teen Gaming Night” programs multiple times a month now. I love games and I know that young people love games. And, for me at least, games are just another form of storytelling. My classmates and I had a meeting last week about our project and one of the ladies (yes, we are all ladies who are interested in games!) told us about National Gaming Day. I had no idea such a thing existed, but I am so happy that it does. It’s even ALA certified, which is awesome! So, this November 13th, celebrate National Gaming Day at your local library! 😀
