The team behind the four-limbed highly capable bot will compete against others during this December\u2019s Finals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theroboticschallenge.org\/\">DARPA is sponsoring the challenge<\/a> to develop robots that can help humans respond to natural and man-made disasters in human-built environments. So the machines must be able to navigate very complex, dangerous situations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 50-member CMU team, called<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrec.ri.cmu.edu\/projects\/tartanrescue\/\"> Tartan Rescue<\/a>, built the five-foot-two-inch, 400-pound robot in a bit over a year.
