MYHREN GALLERY<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Faculty Collects<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Master Watercolors from the Jan Perry Mayer Collection<\/em>open April 1, 2010,\u00a0 in the North and South galleries.\u00a0<em>Faculty Collects<\/em>\u00a0brings together 16 unique collections from SAAH and other DU faculty and staff. Objects range from music posters to postcards, ceramics to popsicle sticks, toys to art. Through its contents, the exhibition examines the collected items and the motivations for collecting them, invoking questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Do collections inform art making or provide a source for research?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Does a collection function as an investment or as a treasured number of souvenirs?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What is the most satisfying aspect of collecting?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>How does collecting catalyze the work of an artist or researcher?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Master Watercolors\u00a0<\/em>is the last of three exhibitions curated this season by students in a museum studies class at DU\u2019s School of Art &amp; Art History (SAAH). The works on display span more than a century of painting, 1885-2005, by artists as diverse as Albert Bierstadt (1891), John Singer Sargent (1906), Marsden Hartley (1924), Elizabeth Spalding (1930), Vance Kirkland (1946), and Jan Perry Mayer (2009). A fully illustrated catalog written by student curators Janie Askew, Kathryn Ninneman, and Caitlin Whaley will be available at the reception.
