Why are we doing the things that we\u2019re trying to do. That was the question I wanted to ask.\u201d This question sparked deep user studies at Google on mobile phone use, what Matias described as \u201cSerious baseline ethnographic research which hadn\u2019t happened before.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class='attribution'>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thisismynext.com\/2011\/10\/18\/exclusive-matias-duarte-ice-cream-sandwich-galaxy-nexus\/\">Matias Duarte on the philosophy of Android<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/log.scifihifi.com\/\">Buzz Anderson:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>When I worked on <a href=\"http:\/\/squareup.com\">Square<\/a>, we used to get a lot of feedback from Google that our Android app felt \u201ctoo iOS-ish.\u201d It\u2019s true that Square\u2019s Android app is pretty much a slavish clone of its iPhone app, but I always thought that criticism was slightly disingenuous since Google\u2019s designers seemed, when pressed, to have a difficult time articulating what \u201cAndroid-ey\u201d means in the context of design.
