This test was conducted by the United States Army on July 16, 1945. The date of the test is usually considered to be the beginning of the Atomic Age.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The above picture is the Trinity explosion, 0.016 seconds after detonation. The fireball is about 600 feet (200\u00a0m) wide. Featuring candid interviews with several <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manhattan_Project\" title=\"Manhattan Project\">Manhattan Project<\/a> scientists, as well as newly declassified archival footage, <em>The Day After Trinity<\/em> was nominated for an <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Academy_Award\" title=\"Academy Award\">Academy Award<\/a> for <a class=\"mw-redirect\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Academy_Award_for_Documentary_Feature\" title=\"Academy Award for Documentary Feature\">Best Documentary Feature<\/a> of 1980, and received a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peabody_Award\" title=\"Peabody Award\">Peabody Award<\/a> in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s title comes from an interview seen near the conclusion of the documentary. Robert Oppenheimer is asked for his thoughts on Sen. <a class=\"mw-redirect\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Kennedy\" title=\"Robert Kennedy\">Robert Kennedy<\/a>\u2019s efforts to urge President <a class=\"mw-redirect\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lyndon_Johnson\" title=\"Lyndon Johnson\">Lyndon Johnson<\/a> to initiate talks to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. \u201cIt\u2019s 20 years too late,\u201d Oppenheimer replies.
