Bruce and I were fighting our way across the convention floor when we hit the worst bottleneck you ever saw.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Me<\/strong>: What\u2019s going on?<br \/><strong>Bruce<\/strong>: (<em>looks through the crowd<\/em>) Who\u2019s the old guy in the wheelchair?<br \/><strong>Me<\/strong>: (<em>sees con badge<\/em>) Uh. That\u2019s Ray Bradbury!<\/p>\n<p> We stood there and gawked for a minute or two while admirers milled around and took photos, and some managed to actually talk to him. (I failed.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Passing woman<\/strong>: Who\u2019s that?<br \/><strong>Guy<\/strong>: That\u2019s Ray Bradbury.<br \/><strong>Woman<\/strong>: Who?<br \/><strong>Me<\/strong>: (<em>facepalm<\/em>)<br \/><strong>Guy<\/strong>: He wrote <em>Fahrenheit 451<\/em>, <em>The Martian Chronicles<\/em>\u2026<br \/><strong>Woman<\/strong>: Oh. (<em>wanders off<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p> We saw him later at a panel, and that\u2019s where the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/hangingfire.tumblr.com\/post\/24573746975\">buried on Mars<\/a>\u201c\u00a0quote comes from. I\u2019m glad we got to see him, and I\u2019m sorry that, contrary to his stated wishes, he never did make it to 100.
