I didn\u2019t hesitate to say \u201cyes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks later, a friend trying to grow her career as a comedian asked me to retweet her latest joke. I didn\u2019t hesitate to say \u201cyes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>I was surprised when I first received those requests. \u201cYou can just\u2026 do that? \u201d I wondered. It never occurred to me to ask for something so clearly and directly.<\/p>\n<p>I have trouble asking for things. I\u2019m fiercely independent \u2014 to a fault. I don\u2019t ask for help when I need it, and I often refuse help when offered.<\/p>\n<p>Our current assignment for <a href=\"http:\/\/orbitalnyc.com\/bootcamp\/\">Orbital Boot Camp<\/a> is to request a \u201cwarm\u201d introduction. That is, ask someone we know for an introduction to someone we don\u2019t know. I\u2019m finding it incredibly difficult. What am I worried about? Being turned down? Inconveniencing someone? I\u2019m not sure.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, neither of those friends I mentioned before inconvenienced me. I was actually glad they\u2019d asked me for help. After the fact, I felt good about myself \u2014 I felt useful.
