My colleague, Molly Templeton introduced me to what she calls \u201cdelete culture\u201d\u2014the act of removing social media posts from the Internet that are no longer relevant to the exact moment you are in.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s shown me Instagram users who limit their accounts to a carefully curated collection of nine photographs that fit in the above-the-scroll grid. We\u2019ve seen super-long Twitter conversations disappear the moment a TV show\u2019s credits roll. This is not the way users are supposed to behave. You cannot data mine deletion. This is the opposite of permanence. I think there\u2019s a lot to learn from these behaviors that are less about meeting consumer needs and more about respecting the human desire to be understood.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class='attribution'>\n<p>I did <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psfk.com\/2015\/04\/know-your-meme-new-york-events-virality-changing-needs-social-media-psfk-2015.html\">an interview<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/tmblr.co\/mGIFodEtwyHhzj-j6DgOiZQ\">psfk<\/a> about Internet culture and <a href=\"http:\/\/tmblr.co\/mqI5BQaytncrb1t6jAajT1g\">everybodyatonce<\/a> and we touched on all the things we obsess about like folks who hide their communication from the rest of the internet.
