The Ta\u00edno cacique Hatuey (claimed by Cuba as its first national hero for his uprising against the Spanish) is seen here defiantly standing at a very close distance to this faceless symbol of colonial domination. This digital provocation is an attempt to reclaim the visual power of these problematic corporate narratives\u2013enacting a revenge fantasy in which history may be altered, and the Ta\u00ednos are not overpowered by the colonizing force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese People Have Flavor\u201d is the artist\u2019s translation of the absurdly lighthearted tagline (\u201c\u00a1Este Pueblo Tiene Sabor!\u201d) used to promote the Old Colony soft drink in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico\u2014a slap in the face that Hatuey will hopefully return.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[<a href=\"http:\/\/iandeleon.com\/artwork\/3241483_Este_Pueblo_Tiene_Sabor.html\">x<\/a>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00a1\u00a1\u00a1 wooo, gracias <a href=\"http:\/\/tmblr.co\/mW0Vq9T3I6KnmXzrojSUVJQ\">latinocaribbeanartists<\/a> ^-^ !!!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>iandeleonarts: latinocaribbeanartists: Ian Dele\u00f3n \u00a1Este Pueblo Tiene Sabor!,\u00a02013.\u00a0Inkjet print,\u00a021 x 21 in (53 x 53 cm).
