i used to do a lot of my work in RPG Maker XP and found i preferred it to VX because there were more layers to work through. Is VX Ace similar/have there been any issues you’ve run into with the engine?

I played around with XP and VX quite a bit before deciding on VX Ace because a lot of the scripts I wanted to use that I’d found elsewhere were only compatible with Ace. I was really set on having 8-directional pixel based movement (rather than a grid square at a time) as well as party members following the front character on the overworld screens and neither XP or VX did this in the way I wanted. I’m really new to rpg maker in general so, in the end, this was the only real deciding factor between them all. I’ve been able to find a lot of support and troubleshooting stuff for Ace pretty easily just through googling so I’ve run into no real issues! there seem to be scripts for everything already that only require a little bit of tweaking to get them to do what you want.
