Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror
release date: March 16, 2012Mirror Mirror is a comedic, female-empowering version of the Snow White tale. Julia Roberts and Lily Collins play the Evil Queen and Snow White respectively and they seem to fit their roles perfectly. Although visually, the tale is a more classic rendition, with over the top costumes and sets, the story is just as off-kilter from the classic tale as the other revamp, Snow White and the Huntsman. In this version, after Snow White is banished, she becomes the leader of a tribe of bandits, the dwarves and, in Snow Whites own words, “There are so many stories where the prince saves the princess; it’s time we change that.” Tarsem himself is made to bring fairy tales to life. His unique eye and dedication to his work (read: The Fall) lead to works that are unlike any other. I am incredibly excited for this one.
