code drawing 03, created on 2013-11-24 between 09:09 – 09:27. this is the first drawing that was labeled “code drawing ##” on the surface of the drawing. I began thinking of this from the vantage point of printmaking heritage, where the edition number is both outside the composition, and yet integral to the framing of the composition both visually and conceptually. the conceptual frame includes an exploration of the multiple as it might oscillate between the print heritage and the evolving practices of the digital era. I decided it was okay to have something like a serial number be a part of the composition, be part of a consistent visual language for these Hopscotch code drawings. as I write this now in late 2015 I realize that this impulse was a sign that: there is some potential in Hopscotch; this potential was worth exploring and doing so seriously; and, I would want to create a workflow, a working method, that would enable long term exploration.
